Iron & Steel
Iron and steel are some of the most recycled metal commodities in the world with more than 94 million tons a year recycled. Scrap steel is recovered from automobiles, buildings and structures, railroad tracks, bridges, stadiums, ships, and farm equipment that are infinitely recycled to make these items again.
At DeKalb Iron & Metal, your scrap iron and steel will be graded based on the following characteristics:
- Size and Length of the material
- Thickness of the material
- Weight of material
- Purpose of the material (machinery, plate, structural, automotive)
- Grey Iron or Ductile Iron
- Processing required to recycle material
Pricing varies by the factors listed above. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff can talk you through the scrap grades when you bring in your scrap.
Cars that have reached their end of life can be scrapped and melted as part of the recycling cycle. Other items such as washing machines, refrigerators and hundreds of other items can also be re-melted and made back into useful items.
DeKalb Iron & Metal is a quality-conscious company with strong relationships with steel producers based on this premises. For that reason, we are transparent with how we grade scrap. In addition, we are explicit in the materials and items we do not accept because they are not recyclable.
